We shall discuss here, the two well known kind of hair dryers and these are ionic hair dryers and non ionic hair dryers. As is the case with any other thing around us, these too have merits and demerits.
To start with the non-ionic hair dryers, this is old and conventional work by simply heating air. Ionic hair dryers combine warmed air with negatively charged ions that are intended to shrink water molecules on the hair and lock in moisture.
As per the manufacturers, ionic hair dryers speed up hair drying as compared to the non ionic ones. On the other hand, Good Housekeeping Institute mentioned in their study that both have equal drying time.
The good housekeeping institute and the users are in agreement with the producers of ionic dryers that these give a shine to the hair, because these dryers use lower heat and cause less harm whereas the non ionic dryers cause considerable harm to the hair.
When there is more shine to the hair, there is naturally less frizzy because the hair shaft is smooth and flat. Most reviewers agree that ionic hair dryers create less frizzy and fly-away hair than non-ionic models.
Hair dryers come in a wide range of prices. Generally, ionic dryers are more expensive than non-ionic ones. “Good Housekeeping Magazine” compared several models and found that although some were as expensive as $300; its favorites were in the $20 to $25 range.
However, one thing that is common between the two dryers is, as with any electric product that will be used near a water source, care must be taken that the electrical cord not comes in contact with water. Always hold the dryer by the handle, never by the barrel which can retain heat.
